Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry that builds decent and affordable homes in partnership with those in need of decent housing. Habitat invites people from all walks of life to join in the mission to eliminate poverty housing worldwide.
Families qualify based on their need for decent housing, willingness to partner with Habitat, and their ability to pay the 0% interest mortgage. The selection process is non-discriminatory. Interested families can see if they meet the application guidelines and can contact us with any questions.
SLV Habitat for Humanity began in 1994, and has built over 14 homes in the Valley. The San Luis Valley is one of the poorest regions in Colorado, and we know that there are many who are in need of decent, affordable housing. Our goal is to begin building 2 houses per year (about double the rate we are currently building). But we can only achieve this goal with the help of more local volunteers.
Most of our homes are built with adobe bricks and make use of passive solar heating. These responsible building techniques help make housing truly affordable through lower energy bills.
Will you help us provide decent housing for those in need? We invite you to join with us in whatever way you are able. Help us build hope by building houses.
